Hello Fellow Coggers!
I’m Kurt Brown, AAD Georgia, your 2016 Rally Meister. The South East Region invites you to the 2016 “ Back Yard” National Rally in Helen, GA June 20 – 24, 2016. Why is this called the “Back Yard” rally? Well, for those of us that live in the South East, our playground is that little slice of heaven circled by Atlanta, Greenville, Asheville, Knoxville & Chattanooga. This is where we go to play, this is our “Back Yard”. And being ever so hospitable southerners, we are inviting ya’ll to come and play in our back yard.
What better place to host the rally, then Helen, GA. For those of you not aware, Helen is a replica of a Bavarian Alpine Village which is nestled in the foothills of North Georgia mountains on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Helen features more than 200 specialty and import shops and a wide array of delicious restaurant options, all with in walking distance of the host hotels and rally central.
Our primary criteria for the National Rally was that there must be great motorcycle roads. Helen fits this, the proverbial round peg in the round hole. Just outside of Helen you will have a choice of 3 roads to take you on your riding adventure. Deal’s Gap (ala The Dragon), Cherohala Skyway and The Blue Ridge Parkway are all easily reached for your riding pleasure. As these are the most notable roads, the rally staff will guide you to those lesser known but equally challenging “local” roads. Dual Sport you ask, just outside of Helen are some of the best Dual Sport roads with many more reached by using that hard curvy pavement.
Helen does not offer a hotel large enough to host all of our membership, so we choose 3 hotels and have a sliding scale of rates depending on the hotel & room category. Our budget hotel is the Super 8, the mid range hotel is the Best Western and the upper scale is the Helendorf Inn. The Helendorf will be rally central as they have the largest meeting space available, the Riverside Room. The Riverside Room opens out to a terrace that is on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Those that prefer to camp will enjoy the offerings of the Mount Yonah Campground where they offer tent & RV sites, a short 4 miles south of Helen towards Cleveland, GA.
The Rally Leadership Team is planning the usual assortment of events plus some new events, along with a social event every evening. The Opening Social (Monday) & Banquet (Thursday) will be held in the Fest Halle (ala Oktoberfest style). Please check back to the links/tabs for any updated information.
