Camping Information

The 2016 National “Back Yard” rally lodging will be in 4 locations, 3 hotels in Helen and a campground just south of Helen. The hotel lodging is structured on price to enable various budget ranges based on hotel category, location, room types & amenities.  Rally Central will be located at the Helendorf River Inn in the Riverside room. But not to worry, as the other two hotels are a short walk to Rally Central and the main downtown shopping area.

2016 National Rally Camping & RV Information, Helen, Georgia

Once again I serve as your national rally camp host, and the location for this years event looks to be the best we have ever had. Having been your host for five previous times, and being on the road camping for more than fifty nights a year doing rallies, I’ve got a pretty good grasp on what works for myself and others choosing this overnight option. The information below should convince everyone that this might be a good low cost alternative for attending our 2016 Helen, GA national rally, and I suspect we will set an all time record for the number of campers choosing this alternative. Read below and see if you don’t agree.

Yonah Mountain Campground is four miles away from rally central, on a fast and smooth highway into town. With a posted speed limit of 55MPH almost all the way, it’s a five minute trip to all of the action in town. Food and fuel opportunities are available right out of the campground all the way into town. There’s also horseback riding, ATV rentals, Zip Line and outfitters, and other recreational options on your way to rally central.

The campsites themselves are as good as you can get. Thick grass sites with water and electricity at every site, your neighbor will be a COG member, as we have the entire tenting area reserved for our event. All sites are close to the restrooms and showers, with sufficient capacity in both to serve us well. There’s a pavilion next to us for use, with two gas grills for your convenience, and I see a group dinner some night for us all. Picnic tables are everywhere. There’s a community room with full kitchen at our disposal, and maybe we could do a spaghetti supper one night there as well. The pool area is a matter of a few hundred feet from all of the campsites. The owner has agreed to having two small tents per site, and with the COG discount, you will be camping for $12.50/night if you wish to share a site. RV owners will get a 15% discount on their chosen site as well. As always, you must mention COG for you discount when reserving you site. We’ve requested that anyone making an RV site reservation be booked as close to the tent/pavilion area as possible, so please mention that when you make your RV reservation. That makes it an easy walk back from the nightly fire.
Speaking of the nightly fire, we have contracted with a local wood suppler to ensure we have enough seasoned wood for our event. The campground owner Steve DuBois has volunteered to build us a new large fire pit to accommodate our big group, so there will be room for everyone around the fire. The location will be at the beginning of the tent sites row, very near the pavilion. This is one feature that everyone in town near rally central doesn’t have, but I expect many will make the trip out at night to be with us to enjoy. If you can’t pack an umbrella/bag chair, we’ll have an option for you there to sit. The nightly fire is one of the highlights of the camping experience, and we intend to do it right. This is, after all, a southeast rally, and we know how to do it up.

Please check out the campground photos, go to their website to see what it looks like, and ask your questions from either Yonah or myself. We will fill the place up with our campers, and hope you can join us there as well. This will be a good time.

There’s room to have 68 tents at the least, and the campground has permitted having up to four persons per site. If there’s small dome tents, you could have three tents per site. That brings the cost down to $8.00 and change.

Campground reservations are open NOW, and it’s not too early to get this done. Be assured of being close to the action by getting this done soon . We WILL fill up the campground for this rally.

When reserving your lodging, you must contact the hotel or campground directly and request the Concours Owners Group rate.
